SYNOPSE – Synthetic precipitation time series for the optimal planning and operation of urban drainage systems

For the optimal planning of urban drainage systems by means of mathematical simulation models, synthetic precipitation time series are needed which are continuous over long periods and have high spatial and temporal resolution. Available precipitation time series are often insufficient. Synthetic precipitation series based on observed data can simulate data gaps. The generation and extensive testing of such series with regard to suitability for various questions of urban drainage are the main goals of the research project. The result is to provide transferable procedures for the generation of locally valid stochastic precipitation series, and hence uniform and comparable preconditions for the application of the series for the planning and optimization of urban drainage systems.
