ROOF WATER-FARM – Cross-sectoral use of water resources for building-integrated farming

The collaborative project pursues the goal of developing building-integrated water treatment technologies for the irrigation and fertilization of adapted building-integrated greenhouse farms and testing the hygienically safe usage of water and material flows. In addition to the technological development of a modular demonstration and test site in the Berlin inner-city residential complex Block 6, possibilities for the incorporation of roof-water farm options for fish and plant production are to be investigated on the scale of a building unit and upscaled for urban spaces at large. The potentials and risks of integrating and diffusing these urban water management concepts across sectors are to be analyzed. Target-group specific communication and training media and recommendations for action are to be developed and published.
